Chengyang District was established in 1994 when Qingdao adjusted
its urban districts. There are 8 neighborhood offices and 230
villages (residential committees) under its jurisdiction, with
a population of 436,000. The total area of Chengyang is 5.532
million square kilometers, and the coastline is 78 kilometers.
Located in the northern part of Qingdao, Chengyang is 25 kilometers
away from the city proper. The district faces Laoshan in the
east and Jiaozhou Bay in the west. It possesses a convenient
transportation network. In the district stands Qingdao Liuting
International Airport. Outside is Qingdao Port, Jiaozhou-Jinan
Railway, and a number of expressways and highways including
Jinan-Qingdao Expressway, Jiaozhouwan Expressway, Qingdao-Yinchuan
Expressway, 308 National Highway, and 204 National Highway run
through the district. No wonder that it is regarded as the ¡°northern
gate¡± of Qingdao.
With the advantageous location, fast improving investment environment
and solid economic basis, Chengyang is developing into the most
attractive area and the mainstay of industry-concentration around
Jiaozhou Bay. Investment from home and abroad has been flooding
into it, including world top 500 companies such as ITOCHU Corporation,
American Tyco International Ltd., French Elf Petroleum Company,
Canadian Bombardier. Industries here range widely, involving
electronics information, electric appliances and machinery,
refined chemical production, textile and garments, food and
drinks, building materials and marine biology.
